Follow these simple rules to vastly improve your smoking experience

Cannabis storage facts everyone should be aware of if they want to get the most from their cannabis.

Cannabis Storage Rule #1

Don’t Store Weed In The Freezer

Storing weed in the freezer for the short term is NOT a preferred method.  Primarily because it causes the trichomes to get brittle and fall off the bud.

If you are getting into your weed stash daily then this is definitely not the way to go unless you want a bunch of Kief. Which is basically all the trichomes now in small particle dust form.

Cannabis Storage Rule #2

Don’t Store Weed In Plastic Bags

Storing weed in plastic baggies is also not a good thing.  The plastic is not airtight and also allows light in which degrades the weed.

Plastic baggies also create static electricity which causes some of the trichomes to stick to the sides of the bag.

It also makes it really easy to crush your buds further making more trichomes fall off and collect on the walls of the bag.

This happens when you roll up the baggies and place them onto other containers or stash boxes.  Either causes the buds to get crushed and degraded quicker.

Don’t Store Weed In Direct Light

Light degrades the bud and causes it to start breaking down and changing the structure of the molecules.

The light also causes it to dry out and changes the type of high you might experience.

This also happens if weed is not cured properly or harvested to late.  For example a Sativa strain can end up giving more of a Indica high.

Store Weed In Air-Tight Dark Containers

The best method for storing weed is an air-tight dark container.

Glass would be the best, especially since you can get mason jars in various sizes and styles at your local target or Walmart.

Plus, they are very inexpensive.

Keep the sealed jar in a dark cool spot between 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit.

You can even get a special humidor to store your weed in if you really want to get fancy.

Ball mason jars even started making a dark amber UV blocking one for your herb storage needs.

Someone is seeing the future potential of their products beyond canning preserves.

They are getting into the cannabis storage arena in a big way.  See them here….

Keep Proper Moisture Levels

Use an Umido”Humidity Control Pod” in any container of your choice to easily maintain the moisture level you desire for that perfect smoking experience.

The Umido HCP allows you to maintain the humidity levels to your liking.

Use a Humidistat gauge if desired, but if you are getting into the weed daily to smoke, you should be fine just monitoring it by touch and sight.

How to use the Umido Humidity Control Pods

Step #1

Choose Your Container

I would recommend a glass mason jar with either a screw lid or a tension clasp lid.  The kind that you flip up to open and the lid stays attached.  As opposed to the standard screw on and off lid.

The amber ones are UV blocking, so I would also recommend getting that type.

Now you’re set on the jars, so on to the next step….

Step #1

Step #2

The 2-Way Moisture Beads

We decided to prefill our HCP’s with the best moisture beads from Japan.

They are the same humidity beads used to protect millions of dollars worth of art and precious documents, as well as other artifacts throughout the world.

What this means to you is you will never have to worry about the RH of your cannabis.

It will always be at the right humidity level.

Their is a lot of science behind how they work, if you want to read more about it click here.

We have provided you with enough beads to control the humidity levels in up to a 5 gallon storage container, so we are pretty sure it will be more than adequate for the 8oz to 16 oz containers most of us will be using on a daily basis to store our cannabis.

This will give you a longer lifespan and a higher level of buffering moisture.

Since the beads are rechargeable, they should last you forever.

When they start to get white, this means they have been hard at work giving up their moisture for the sake of your weed.

When they turn more clear, this means they have been absorbing moisture from the weed to maintain the proper RH level.

If they become mainly clear, it’s time to regenerate them for further use. Same is true if they turn to white.

They have a very long lifespan.  In one ongoing test approaching the two year mark as of this writing, the results were as follows:

A 1.5 liter container containing approximately 1/2 pound of the 70% RH moisture beads was still measuring a RH of 68% after almost two years.  It was opened and gotten into daily to check the readings.

So this would closely simulate a cannabis users experience getting into their weed stash daily.

Step #2

Step #3

The HCP “Humidity Control Pod”

The HCP may not look very special, but it was chosen for its ability to be closed instead of always open or on.

The pod has a removable lid that snaps on and off easily.

This allows for easy inspection of the beads.

In theory you should never have to get into the pod for years. Just place it in the container and forget about it.

The HCP can be used in any size container up to 5 gallons.  The HCP was intended to be used in an 8oz to 1 gallon size mason jar.

Just twist the lid to the open position and your done.

If used in this size range, then you can expect excellent performance for years to come.

To carefully snap the lid off by gently prying the edge away from the main body of the pod.

Step #3

Step #4

Put Ground or Unground Weed Into The Jar

Put either your ground up weed or full buds into the storage container.

You can either leave a space in the middle of the herb for the pod or place the pod on top of the herb in the next step.

Step #4

Step #5

Put The HCP Into The Jar

Gently place your Umido “Humidity Control Pod” into the container.

Make sure you have opened the pod to the full open position to provide adequate moisture to the herb.

Step #5

Step #6

Use & Check Daily As Needed

You can also use a humidistat gauge inside the jar so you can get a more accurate level of humidity in your cannabis.

They can be purchased on Amazon in either analog or digital formats.

You might have to calibrate them as well, and for this reason, I use them as an additional guide along with my own visual inspection of the buds.

Assuming you have the 65% RH beads, then your RH should not fluctuate more than 10% according to the manufacturer.

So theoretically, the cannabis could go from a low of 58.5% to a high of 71.5% RH.

If this stuff is protecting millions and millions in artifacts, I’m sure your weed will be better than fine.

Most people cannot believe how much better their smoking experiences are now.

They are way less harsh.

Everyone loves fresher, tastier weed.

Step #6

Infusing Flavors

Infusing Flavors Into Cannabis

There are a few ways to go about infusing flavors into your cannabis.

We only use the highest of grades of essential oils, such as peppermint.

You can also use the cannabis terpene oils, but they are very expensive.

The simplest way is to just place a few drops onto a small piece of paper towel, then just put that into one of your HCP’s instead of the beads.

If you are using the Best Herb Grinder, just place the paper towel in the upper moisture chamber.
